Fentanyl Free Communities Foundation to Honor The Salvation Army’s Life-Saving Efforts in Fentanyl Crisis
Minneapolis, MN – December 13, 2023
On December 18, Board Members of the Fentanyl Free Communities Foundation will join hands in honoring The Salvation Army’s pivotal role in combating the fentanyl epidemic. This recognition event will see the Foundation’s members participating in the iconic bell-ringing at the north entrance of the Mall of America from 11 AM to 5 PM.
“Our foundation wants to thank and publicly recognize The Salvation Army for the tremendous work done daily, which values and saves lives threatened by the fentanyl epidemic,” said Michele Hein, Board Chair of the Fentanyl Free Communities Foundation.
Paul Ostrow, Chair of Fentanyl Free Communities, the policy advocacy partner organization dedicated to policy changes to confront the epidemic, emphasized the importance of collaboration. “Partnerships with valued community organizations are a key strategy in addressing this crisis,” Ostrow stated.
This unique collaboration was spearheaded by Ryan Vasquez, a board member of the Fentanyl Free Communities Foundation and the South Minneapolis Director for this year’s bell-ringing drive. Vasquez commented, “I’m proud to merge two of my biggest passions this holiday season: combating the scourge of opioids on our streets and fundraising on behalf of the South Minneapolis Salvation Army. Bringing these two stellar teams together to ring at the Mall of America’s main entrance was a no-brainer. This collaboration symbolizes our united front in saving lives and highlights the importance of local efforts in combating this epidemic. It’s a privilege to contribute to this cause and to be part of a movement that directly impacts and protects our community.”
The event underscores the Foundation’s commitment to building strong community ties and enhancing efforts to tackle the fentanyl crisis through meaningful partnerships. The Salvation Army, known for its extensive work in providing life-saving treatment programs and distributing Narcan, has been a vital ally in these endeavors.
The Fentanyl Free Communities Foundation extends an open invitation to the public to join them at the Mall of America to show support for this cause and to help spread awareness about the ongoing battle against fentanyl poisoning.
